If anyone is sanctioned to associate with Krishna, it is Radha, for she is the divine heroine of a divine drama, the ultimate model of devotion to God, and hence the embodiment of perfect chastity. That Radha and Krishna’s relationship appears to be illicit simply heightens the romantic element of the drama, inviting the worshiper to abandon the distractions of this world to enter into the transcendent realm of rich and exciting transcendent rasa.

Who is Rādhā? Devī. She is the Goddess. Actually, the word devī comes from div, which means illumination. The impersonalists would say, “Aha! See! It is light. It is all about light!” No, it is devī, it is the Goddess. Kṛṣṇamayī: and She is “consisting of Kṛṣṇa”. Her whole being is Kṛṣṇa. Kṛṣṇamaya. Not kṛṣṇamāyā, but kṛṣṇamaya (with a short ‘a’). She is constituted of Kṛṣṇa. He is Her very life, Her very existence. Yathā tathā vā vidadhātu lampaṭo / mat-prāṇa-nāthas tu sa eva nāparaḥ: Kṛṣṇa is the lord of Her prāṇa, Her life-airs, which means Her life. That is Rādhārāṇī.
