The unique thing about Field Notes is that it allows the reader to explore various ideas about Gauḍīya Vaiṣṇavism as they meet with the author's mind. Each section is like a micro-lesson, sometimes in question-and-answer format, sometimes as a meditation or a reflection on an idea.
The depth of these lessons can reach the reader on many different levels. The first being a person learning about the lifestyle, belief and practices of Gauḍīya Vaiṣṇavism, particularly amongst the ISKCON community, we could call this the outsider perspective, the second being received by the members inside of the community, as beginners, and finally by a person who is a practitioner of Gauḍīya Vaiṣṇavism who has a three-dimensional understanding of the tradition, theology and philosophy. For the latter two, depending on their experience, these notes will make the most sense, as they will be more familiar with the contexts, terminology, Sanskrit and Bengali.
However, due to the book's vast array of ideas, there will be something of value for everyone. These notes have not been narrowed down for a particular purpose or focused on a specific area of study. As for spiritual study, the spiritual disciplines must be approached to unlock the mystique of bhakti-yoga, the primary method of spiritual realization in the Gauḍīya Vaiṣṇava schools of thought.
